How to Take Control of Your Time (Without Overhauling Your Entire Life)

Hey friend! If you’ve ever felt like you’re drowning in endless to-do lists, running late to everything, or wondering how other moms seem to have it all together while you’re barely keeping up—this episode is for you.

I’m diving into some powerful mindset shifts that will help you believe (and know) that you can improve your time management. Because the truth is—you’re not bad at managing your time. You’ve just never been taught a way that actually works for your life, especially the unpredictable chaos of motherhood.

By the end of this episode, I’ll share a sneak peek into the simple, practical method I created for busy moms like you. It’s designed to help you feel calm and in control in just five minutes a day—because small, consistent changes are the key to real transformation.

3 Quick Wins to Take Control of Your Time

1. Shift Your MindsetYou’re Not Bad at Time Management

For the longest time, I thought I was just bad at managing my time. I compared myself to other moms who seemed to juggle it all effortlessly, and I felt like a hot mess. But here’s the truth: time management is a skill—just like cooking or driving. It’s something you can learn and improve over time. And it doesn’t have to be perfect. Small shifts, made consistently, are what lead to lasting change.

2. Use the 5-Minute Reset for Instant Relief

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, my free 5-Minute Reset Mini-Course is the perfect place to start. It’s designed to give you a simple, doable way to feel calm and in control—even on the busiest days. This isn’t about overhauling your life. It’s about learning a quick system that fits into real mom life (yes, even with toddler meltdowns and mystery spills). Grab it here: tanyavalentinecoaching.com/reset. It’s short, actionable, and can give you a quick win today!

3. Don’t Overhaul Everything—Start Small

Trying to change everything at once is a recipe for burnout and procrastination. When we try to do too much, we get overwhelmed and often don’t even start. And if we do start, it’s too much too fast, and we end up reverting back to old habits. The better approach? Focus on just one small, doable change at a time. Give yourself permission to adjust and grow gradually. That’s how real, lasting transformation happens.

Why Small Changes Matter

You don’t need to flip your entire routine upside down. In fact, the smaller the change, the more likely you are to stick with it. Small steps, done consistently, create momentum—and that momentum leads to big results over time.

So if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’ve failed in the past, it’s not because you’re bad at managing time. You just need a system that works with your life. And it all starts with one small step today.

Your next action step:

Pick 1 small thing that you can can implement today to make managing your time easier.  It could be something as simple as waking up 15 minutes earlier, writing down 1 priority task that you want to get done the night before, or even downloading the 5-minute Reset Mini Course for a step-by-step plan and tools to help give you an immediate win without adding more to your plate.

And if this episode resonated with you, share it with a friend who needs a little encouragement today.

You’ve got this, mama. Let’s take it one small step at a time.

TRANSCRIPT

Hey friend, welcome back to The Mom-entum Podcast! I’m your host, Tanya Valentine, and if you’ve ever felt like you’re drowning in never-ending to-do lists, like you’re running late to everything, or like other moms somehow have it all together while you’re barely keeping up—this episode is for you.

Today, we’re diving into mindset shifts that will help you believe you can improve your time management—because the truth is, you’re not bad at managing your time… you just haven’t been taught a way that actually works for your life.

And stick around, because at the end of this episode, I’ll be sharing a sneak peek into a super simple method I’ve created just for busy moms like you!

Mindset shift #1: You’re Not Bad at Time Management—You Just Haven’t Been Taught the Right Way

I used to think something was wrong with me. I would compare myself to other moms who seemed to have it all figured out. There was one friend in particular—she had three boys at the time who are around the same age as my kids, she was working full-time as a nurse commuting to the city, and was also in school to become a nurse practitioner. And I just kept thinking… How does she do it?!

Meanwhile, I was over here feeling like I could barely function. I was always running late. I was always behind on everything. And I assumed that some moms were just naturally good at managing their time while I was doomed to be a hot mess forever.

But here’s what I eventually realized:

Time management is a skill. Just like cooking, driving, or parenting—it’s something you learn, not something you’re born with.

And if it’s a skill… that means you can improve it. With practice. With the right tools. And with small, consistent changes.

And I know this is true because I’ve lived it. I used to be the person who was late to everything. Now? I’m the mom who’s on time—or even early. My productivity has skyrocketed. And if I can change, trust me, so can you.

Now, you might be thinking, “Okay, Tanya, but I’ve tried time management strategies, and they just don’t work for me.”

And I get it—because most traditional time management advice? It was NOT designed for moms.

A lot of strategies assume you have long, uninterrupted stretches of time to plan, organize, and execute your tasks. But let’s be real. If you have little kids, your life is filled with constant interruptions—diaper changes, snack requests, toddler meltdowns, and mystery spills that need immediate attention.

So the problem isn’t you. The problem is that you’ve been trying to use systems that don’t work for the unpredictability of motherhood.

You don’t need a stricter plan. You need a flexible structure—one that bends with your life instead of breaking under the chaos.

Now, maybe you’re listening to this thinking, “That all sounds great, but I don’t think I can change, I don’t think anything will work for me.”

And I want to challenge that belief.

Because let’s be honest—if you had told past me that one day I would feel calm, organized, and in control of my time? I would have laughed in your face.

But change happens in small, consistent steps. Just like if you wanted to get stronger, you wouldn’t wake up one day and suddenly lift 100 pounds. You’d start with small weights and build up over time.

Time management works the same way. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight, in fact, you shouldn’t that would just set you up for failure because a dramatic change like that is just not sustainable.  What you need is a gradual change.  You just need to start with one small shift—and let that momentum build.

Now here’s something I want you to really hear today:

Time is your most valuable asset.

You can always make more money. But you can’t make more time.

And when you learn how to manage your time well, you’re not just checking off more tasks—you’re creating freedom.

Freedom to be present with your kids without feeling guilty about what’s not getting done.

Freedom to take care of yourself without feeling selfish.

Freedom to actually enjoy this season of life instead of constantly feeling overwhelmed by it.

This is why I’m so passionate about helping other moms learn this skill—because I know firsthand how life-changing it is when you finally feel like you’re in control of your time instead of being controlled by it.

And that’s exactly why I created this free resource :The 5-Minute Reset Mini Course—because I know you don’t have time for another complicated system that takes hours to implement.

This is a method designed specifically for busy moms—moms who need a system that adapts to real life, not one that falls apart the second your kid wakes up early from their nap.

It’s not a rigid schedule. It’s a practical, step-by-step approach that will help you feel calm, in control, and actually enjoy your days more.

It’s designed to give you a quick win-something that doesn’t take a ton of time but gives you immediate relief and a sense of control over your day.

It’s as short as a podcast episode, so you can even complete it today.  And trust me, the return on your time investment will be so worth it.

So make sure you grab it now at TanyaValentineCoaching.com/reset and take the first step toward feeling more in control of your time.

Before we wrap up, I want you to take a moment to reflect on something.

What are the beliefs you’ve been carrying about time?

Have you been telling yourself that you never have enough of it? That you’ll never get organized? That you’re just not a “naturally productive” person?

If so, I want you to start questioning those beliefs.

Because they are not true. You are not broken. You are not stuck. Change is possible.

And it starts today—with this first mindset shift:

You are not bad at managing your time. You just need a method that works for YOU.

If this episode resonated with you, I’d love for you to share it with a friend who needs to hear it. And be sure to tune in next week, where I’ll be diving into mindset shifts around time scarcity—because how you think about your time shapes your entire experience. It’s all about perception and belief. As the saying goes, whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t, you’re right.

And don’t forget to grab your FREE 5-Minute Reset mini-course at tanyavalentinecoaching.com/reset. Take action right now—because as Tony Robbins says, never leave the site of a goal without doing something toward its attainment. So go do this now! You’ll be so glad you did.
